Our Lady of Ferguson.

Mark Doox’s icon, Our Lady, Mother of Ferguson, and All Those Killed by Gun Violence, after periodic presentations, is now on extended loan for viewing at the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine in New York City.

Curator Cheryl McGinnis works with the New York Historical Society and is a faculty member in the education department of the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine NYC, where the icon of Our Lady of Ferguson can be seen. Through McGinnis’ program “Looking is Learning,”—she gives tours of the Cathedral’s art and specifically talks about Our Lady of Ferguson.

“Our Lady of Ferguson is an experience for viewers. I give them no information and do not permit them to read the card with information. I ask them only to tell me what they see. Not only do they experience the work on a different level, they begin to understand themselves better. Coming to art this way allows us to truly experience someone else's lived experience. The experience of what it is to be American, human, Black, a woman.... it is always a profound experience. The Cathedral is proud to be a steward of this piece. For me personally, I am always moved.”
